Sharing information about events focused on the development of AI-relevant skills

According to the Coordinated Plan on Artificial Intelligence (COM(2018) 795, 7.12.2018): “The Commission will support Masters and PhDs in AI through the proposed closer cooperation between AI research excellence centres and, more broadly, the EU’s research and innovation programmes.” This is of course very important, but it takes time. During last few years there are many other initiatives addressing improvement of AI-relevant skills. Summer Schools are good examples. There are many such events focused on AI/machine learning/deep learning. For example, this year there are at least two international summer schools on deep learning in Poland: in Gdansk, July 1-5, and in Warsaw, July 22-26, I know that there are many other. It would be very useful to organize a dedicated page (or calendar) with information about such events. The website of the European AI Alliance is a good place for that. The possibility to develop AI-skills is very important for many companies, organizations, etc.

Hello Jacek,

This is a really good idea that we would like to technically integrate to the AI Alliance as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I believe that we can start by sharing relevant events and courses through the general events section until we eventually pass to a more specialised one.

I think it is very important to have people trained in the "pure AI field" (i.e. computer science with an AI speciality).

It is equally important to have people trained throug transdisciplinarity approaches.

In bioinformatics, for instance, there is a huge need for machine learning / deep learning analysis of the data (which arrive more and more quickly with very high resolution). In our case, having a biological background is as important as mastering the latest AI algorithms so, if there are initiatives around education in AI, they should also target transdisciplinar projects.

I do like this idea. It is practical, useful and easily put into use.

I'd like to  bring following course into it:

That is free online course that 's put together Helsinki Aalto University with the Reaktor company. And it is really available for everyone who can english or finnish. ( other languages coming )

That course promises that

After taking the course, you will be able to:

- Understand some of the major implications of AI
- Think critically about AI news and claims
- Define and discuss what AI is
- Explain the methods that make AI possible

Dear Jacek,

I also strongly support the idea, because we are great promotors of open science and open education.  We, at Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia, provide al lot of totally free lectures from the field of Artificial Intelligence. You can find free video lectures

on in different languages (mostly english).

All AI fields should be considered.
