AI4EU Cafe: Semantic Technologies for Earth Observation

-

This AI4EU Cafe presents the Manolis Koubarakis (Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens)
Abstract:
Earth observation data is arguably one of the most important digital resources available to mankind today. Lots of this data is open and freely available around the world. Europe is a pioneer in this area with its flagship Earth observation programme Copernicus. In this presentation I will show how to use semantic technologies to discover Earth observation data, build pipelines which extract information and knowledge from it, and use this information and knowledge to develop applications of environmental, societal and economic value. The work presented covers a decade of relevant research by my group (http://ai.di.uoa.gr/) funded by over 4M Euros by the European Commission, the European Space Agency and the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation.
