European AI Week: Bringing European AI to the World & Showcasing AI Excellence & Trust in Realities

Artificial Intelligence enthusiasts will have much to choose from for their interest in AI as the European AI Week commencing from March 14-18 with huge agendas under the two key activities taking place online and on-site in the EU and at EXPO Dubai.

The events are the “High-Level Forum on the EU Vision for Trustworthy AI in the World” in EXPO Dubai from 15-16 March organised by the European Commission’s InTouchAI.eu project and the community-based event European AI Week from 14 - 18 March 2022 organised by AI4Belgium.

An overarching goal of the activities is bringing European AI approaches, which are based on two key pillars AI ecosystem of Trust and AI Ecosystem of Excellence, to the wider world and demonstrating the AI innovations in a series of areas with strong analyses on ethical, legal, and societal implications. The activities are organised and participated by numerous members, ranging from EU Commission, EU member countries, EU and international organisations and associations, civil groups, experts, academics, innovators, scientists, artists, and many others.

The rich agendas from the events demonstrate that there’s a great chance for AI to be useful and profound tools and means for us to harness positive outcomes from them, while no hard questions are shied away or hot concerns in ethics or regulations would be untouched. Confirmed keynote speakers, presenters, projects, products, services, research focuses, new collaboratives initiatives in AI, and other conversations offer the audience diverse perspectives and practical learnings.

The detailed programmes of the activities show synergies in investing, developing, regulating, and using AI in health, sustainability, agriculture, and arts while other specific topics, e.g., AI education and training, AI in the public sector, AI in media, training AI talents..., can complement and bring a more holistic AI landscape in the EU and in collaborating with global partners beyond the EU borders.

InTouchAI.eu - The High-Level Forum on the EU Vision for Trustworthy AI in the World

The European Commission in the frame of InTouchAI.eu organises the European AI Excellence and Trust in the World at the World EXPO Dubai from 15-16 March 2022. The event leverages the international stage at the EXPO to present the EU approaches to AI at a global level.

Countries' leaders, policymakers, experts, academics, civil society representatives and artists from all around the world will join the EC in a series of events including the High-Level Forum on the EU Vision for Trustworthy AI in the World, AI Walk, expert workshops on sustainability and health. The speakers and panellists will share their diverse perspectives, learnings, and possibilities in the events that will take place in the two days at pavilions of selected EU countries presenting at the EXPO.

The event organisers invite all AI enthusiasts in the world and those who care and are concerned about how AI is being and will be developed, regulated and adopted following the EU values of human-centred and the development of AI with ecosystems of trust and excellence.

The High-Level Forum on the EU Vision for Trustworthy AI in the World

Hosting at the Pavilion Italia and broadcasting live, the Forum presents high-level representatives and experts from Europe and around the world to discuss EU efforts to pursue Trustworthy AI at the global level. 

Apart from the keynotes by EC and countries’ leaders, a high-level panel bring the audience series of hot topics, focuses and concerns on AI in different territories and organisations.

Expert Workshop on AI for Sustainability

The AI for Sustainability workshop features three EU projects in energy, smart and sustainable cities and precision agriculture. The projects showcase how AI is being developed and applied in the areas to ensure sustainable growth while achieving both digital and green transitions of the EU.

A Panel of renowned academics and industries experts also shares their learnings and the way forwards in such AI-enabled innovation in sustainable growth.

Expert Workshop on AI for Health

Health is one of the pioneering areas in adopting AI solutions for healthcare systems, treatments, diagnostics, precision medicine, pharmaceutical products and many more.

The workshop displays three examples of European AI excellence in healthcare, including robots, AI in oncology, and algorithms for diagnosing, treating, and predicting haematological diseases. A panel discussion with international experts will bring perspectives on the practical implications of AI in healthcare, including how to ensure that these technologies are developed with adequate consideration for their social and ethical aspects. 

AI Walk & InTouchAIeu Art Performance 

The AI Walk is a collection of AI cases from different EU pavilions designed as an overview of AI excellence at EXPO 2020. Each AI case will be showcased on a web board, focusing on different human-centric aspects. 

The AI art performance is presented by Franz Rosati, a musician & digital artist, showing what AI can co-create with artists and how artists can use AI in their creative process.

The European AI Week 14 - 18 March 2022

Concurrently, the European AI Week gathers the AI4Belgium ecosystem and wider partners to share the achievements and the goals of the companies, citizens, institutions, working groups that work throughout the year, since it was last organised in March 2021, to make a better world through AI.

90+ events and 400+ speakers in the 5-day detailed programme offer inspiring talks, workshops, new insights from research, new publications, and citizen debates. There is a dedicated focus to helping European youth, who are more familiar and comfortable with digital, fast and personalized services, to navigate in the AI-enabled era. Workshops, talks and discussions help them to learn that the world evolving fast enough to cope with challenges. What are their dreams in a world that constantly evolve? (How) do we listen to them? Skills and the future of jobs: what is the impact of AI on employment? What looks like the “desirable future”? Which jobs for tomorrow? How will education evolve?

In media, the audience can learn about how AI can deeply influence, recognize, modify, or falsify text, images, and voices. What about the quality of information today? How immersive and augmented technologies are going to affect our lives? What about the value and the role of digital items such as NFT? The workshop by the EU-funded AI4media project will shed light on the topics while leading the audience on an immersive journey.

A few sessions will bring attention to gender equality in AI and highlight women leaders in the AI ecosystem. A dedicated event will highlight women digital innovators and entrepreneurs harnessing AI for social impact, and discuss ways in which policymakers, business leaders, and entrepreneurs can work together to ensure a more inclusive AI ecosystem.
