Water Resilience for Electricity Production: Risks and Solutions (Event organised by MIP4Adapt)

-

This webinar is aimed at regional and local energy agencies, as well as public and private electricity producers. Climate change is increasing risks to electricity generation, as higher water temperatures and more frequent droughts reduce the availability of rivers, lakes, and seas for cooling. In extreme cases, this can force temporary shutdowns and threaten electricity supply.

With demand for electricity expected to rise significantly by 2050, these challenges will become even more pressing, especially in water scarce regions. Against this backdrop, the EU Water Resilience Strategy (April 2025), with its focus on efficiency first, is highly relevant. The session will share recent data, highlight findings from two new reports, and explore practical solutions to strengthen water resilience in the energy sector.
