The Shift to Edge Data Processing - developing a European cloud-to-edge continuum

-

How is the Edge market segmented currently, what are the existing offerings, and what needs do these answer to?

The direction of the session is showing the two different segmentations:

• IoT edge solutions, which focus on the provision of computing and data management services to IoT installations;

• and Telco edge developments, which aim at supporting Telco operators 5G deployments. In this context, it is important to highlight that for cloud hyperscalers, edge computing represents an additional entry point for the consumption of their cloud services.

Furthermore, we will also address how the need for high performance services – specifically with regards to low latency – creates the need for the 5G network to support novel features for the deployment of distributed edge cloud infrastructure.

Overall, we would like to touch upon both near and far edge offerings and their effects in the context of sustainable digital infrastructures.

Subtopics

• general information at strategic level, about the Edge computing development strategies, techniques, and foreseen upcoming advances in organisations, beyond information on the commercial products each organization has in place

• operator perspective in the matter, including the vision on the role of Edge computing for Telco operators

• edge strategy in terms of system integrations

• insights on MEC and Edge computing powered OpenRAN architectures, including both hardware and network services provision, NFV and Edge to Cloud software management
