Today’s critical infrastructures have become more and more complex and interconnected, and this evolution process will continue. On the other hand, the increasing complex interrelation among such critical systems createsnew security vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by malicious users to compromise sensible data, other systems or the whole network with a tremendous impact on the economy and the society.

The CONNECT University session on "Cybersecurity in critical infrastructures"  brings together European Commission and external experts working on strengthening cybersecurity in critical infrastructures to discuss around this topic highlighting both the role of the private sector and the public authorities. The debate will mainly focus on examples from the energy sector, financial services and transport infrastructure. During the session the European Commission experts will briefly present the latest EU’s policy and research initiatives in the field of cybersecurity in critical infrastructures. This session seeks to introduce the topic and to initiate an online debate on twitter which will culminate on December 5th with the ICT 2018 plenary ‘Secure Digital Economy and Society’.
