Following the success of the previous eight episodes of the ‘Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate’, the next edition will take place on 30 June 2022, and will aim to understand which opportunities the Single Market offers to SMEs in border regions, as well as how to overcome existing obstacles.
Border regions can offer several opportunities for SMEs thanks to the Single Market, not only for business owners but also for employees and customers. Employers gain from a larger pool of qualifications and language skills, jobseekers can find more vacancies and benefit from cross-border commuting instead of relocating, and customers get a wider offer of products and services. Following the temporary reintroduction of borders during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a timely moment to take stock of the current situation for SMEs in border regions regarding their access to the Single Market, job market, and education/training opportunities.
At this Breakfast Debate, we will hear from SMEs from border regions on how they benefit from the opportunities offered by the Single Market, which obstacles they still experience, and how to solve them thanks to cross-border cooperation. These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from the European Commission and business organisations operating in border regions.
The event will be held online on Zoom. You can already register via this link. Further information will be available closer to the event.
