Beyond Borders Breakfast Debates - Cross-border public transport: the route towards integration of border regions

Following the success of the fourth ‘Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate’ in September, the next edition of the series will focus on Cross-border public transport: the route towards integration of border regions.

This Breakfast Debate is inspired by the soon-to-be-published European Commission’s “Study on public transport in cross-border regions: Mapping of existing services and related legal obstacles”, which highlights the critical importance of cross border public transport and the development of services as one central means to facilitate cross-border activities, improve the mobility (and inclusion) of citizens, and ensure greater sustainability in border regions. The study also focuses on the analysis of cross-border public transport services by providing a web-viewer displaying the different transport modes, stops and routes throughout Europe. This web-viewer will be presented at the event.

During the event, the European Commission will discuss the study and its key findings. Well qualified speakers from the border territories will highlight concrete examples of challenges faced by on-going cross-border public transport services, and their solutions. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of integrated cross-border public transport in realising the vision of the Single Market.
