Executive Summary — Hybrid Stakeholder Event: Transatlantic Collaboration on Emerging Technology Standards

On 17 November 2023, EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Working Group 1 (WG1) representatives from the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce jointly hosted a hybrid government-to-stakeholder event in Washington, D.C. The event sought to collect stakeholder input on existing and future areas of transatlantic collaboration on emerging technology standards.

With over 50 participants in person and 150 online, 16 stakeholders from the EU and the U.S. had the opportunity to give short statements on ongoing and potential transatlantic cooperation on standards for emerging technologies that could be addressed through TTC WG1. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to provide remarks and/or written inputs, through a call for comments launched in parallel to the event. The aim of this event and comment period was to provide WG1 representatives with a more accurate picture of stakeholder priorities, so that as appropriate and feasible, these perspectives may inform transatlantic collaboration on standardisation and the work of TTC WG1.

This executive summary provides an overview of the stakeholder feedback collected through the hybrid event and call for comments. In particular, this document spotlights the priorities raised by both EU and U.S. stakeholders with the objective of providing an understanding of areas for potential transatlantic collaboration.
