In moments of crisis, mobile connectivity is a lifeline | Ukraine support message by the GSMA

In moments of crisis, mobile connectivity is a lifeline.

Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, the GSMA has been working with its key members to ensure a coordinated industry response. The GSMA actions are focused on four main pillars, namely supporting humanitarian assistance, EU engagement on the policy response, supporting networks and cyber threat coordination.

There is widespread concern among our members for the people caught in this humanitarian crisis. And they want to help. Mobile network operators in Europe and around the world have come forward with mobile and digital assistance. For example, they are providing free mobile services such as SIMs, mobile roaming, calls, and texts, connectivity and charging at central points where refugees gather, as well as charitable donations.

Our members will continue to offer humanitarian programmes recognising the importance of connectivity, particularly in times of crisis. Our hope is that these measures will go some way to lighten the burden faced by the millions of people displaced and seeking refuge. With these measures in place, we hope mobile will continue to play its vital role in keeping family and friends connected.

Thank you Ruta for this valuable input. Would you have any updates on any GSMA activities to support Ukraine since June?
