Use this forum to ask your questions

The ELM support team can advise implementers, but its resources are limited. For example, while the ELM support team can advise you on how to install and use an electronic seal, they will not be familiar with the Trust Service Providers operating in your country, or the actual processes of e-Seal acquisition. On this forum, you can exchange with more experienced peers from your country, or learning sector/domain to gather useful information, plan your implementation journey, and optimise your efforts.

Hello,

I have a recurring problem that I can't seem to solve. I'm also going to contact my institution's IT department in parallel. Here it is: once I have installed NexU and the connection is ready, NexU detects signature methods and offers me two: either a ‘New key shop’ or the ‘Windows key shop’. The NexU software only accepts two types of private key: JKS and PKCS12. The site we use to make a mock seal (getaCert) offers to download the certificate in pkcs12 format.
I downloaded it, the problem being that it asks me for a password for this private key, a password that I don't have and don't know. This undoubtedly leads to the error message on the NexU site.
So I tried to get round this by downloading the key into my certificate manager and then exporting it to my Windows folders. Except that here, the problem is that I can only export it in pkcs7 format and not pkcs12, so the NexU application doesn't spot it (in pkcs 7 format).
Do you think I should call in an IT specialist or do you have any solutions to my problem? I'd like to create a test certificate, hence my desire to use a mock seal.

UPDATE: I've managed to find the key code, but the process is stuck at ‘obtaining data for signing and validating the current certificate’. And the Europass site and the NexU application are no longer working.

Thank you.

If you have received an advanced or qualified electronic seal from a Trust Service Provider (TSP), they will have furnished you with a password for it. The advanced or qualified certificate is secured with a password to protect the integrity and privacy of the key.  To proceed, you will need the correct password. The system is functioning as designed to ensure that credentials remain secure and cannot be altered without proper authorisation. If you have lost the password, the only option is to request a new seal from the TSP.

No, I generated the electronic seal (an auto signature) on the site you provide: getacert. It gives the password. But when I go to the europass site with the NexU application, it says ‘Obtaining data for signing and validating the certificate in progress’ and the page doesn't open any more and remains as it is. The site then freezes, do you have a solution?

First of all, let us apologise for the confusion. We are currently in the process of updating our documentation available on Europass, which will be finalised in the coming month.

The option to use self-signed certificates in the 'Playground' environment described in the documentation is no longer available, and we are discontinuing the use of the Playground environment as a whole. As a result, it is not possible to use 'mock-certificates' to test the full EDC issuing flow. We encourage you to create your test credentials directly in the EDC Online Credential Builder. You can then preview what your credentials would look like, or if you would like to test the full issuing flow, some Trusted Service Providers provide test seals that can be used for this purpose.
