Towards Cross-Border Energy Communities: Upcoming EU Call for Projects in July

On May 1st 2025, the MOT and AEBR officially launched a European project dedicated to Cross-border Energy Communities (CBEC). Supported by DG REGIO, it aims to foster the development of energy communities in border areas, with technical support from REScoop.eu, the European federation of citizen energy cooperatives.

The European CBEC aims to help border regions establish or strengthen cross-border and quasi-cross-border energy communities. Building on the insights from the CBEC Handbook, a call for projects will select seven pilot actions that will receive both financial and technical support. In addition to funding, these pilot initiatives will benefit from expert guidance provided by REScoop.eu. Support will include tailored technical assistance, workshops, webinars, and peer exchanges to help pilot projects structure, develop, or consolidate their energy communities across borders.

The call for projects will open in July 2025 and close in November 2025. The seven pilot actions will be selected by MOT and AEBR.
