The results of the MOT’s Borders Forum: What if we dared to make a Cross-border deal?

More than 300 participants gathered on December 2nd and 3rd at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris for the Borders Forum 2024, an event organised by the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT)* under the theme “What if we dared to make a Cross-border deal?”

The Forum aimed to present a "Cross-border deal" to national and European decision-makers that better integrates cross-border living areas in public policies, helps resolve obstacles at borders that affect the daily lives of almost 30% of the European population, and rebuilds trust in Europe.

To this end, after a first day of round-table discussions on the concepts of trust, identity, solidarity, and sovereignty in cross-border contexts, the second day of the event began with 10 thematic workshops in various international houses of the Cité Universitaire. With topics ranging from culture to public services, these sessions encouraged participants to collaborate actively in shaping a “cross-border deal”. Organized by MOT members and partners, the workshops all produced concrete proposals, which were presented during the closing session of the event to representatives of national and European institutions.
