Overtourism workshop in Brussels on 20 May

We are pleased to invite you to a hybridworkshop onovertourism in European destinationson 20 May 2022 in Brussels. The workshop is planned as a half-day event, from 09:00 to 13:00 CET.

The European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) and European Commission, Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), commissioned a study investigating unbalanced tourism growth at EU destinations. This study, titled “Unbalanced tourism growth at destination level – root causes, impacts, existing solutions and good practices”, spans from December 2020 until June 2022.

The study aims to contribute to the dialogue among tourism stakeholders (DMOs, infrastructure providers, NGOs and other relevant actors), on the topic of sustainable tourism, by organising a series of five destination-specific workshops. These workshops connected tourism stakeholders to foster peer-to-peer learning on problems and solutions to unbalanced tourism growth. A final EU level workshop will shed light on the five destination workshops’ main discussion points, similarities and differences on how overtourism has been experienced and addressed in various destinations. Furthermore, participants will also reflect on the European Commission’s suggested transition pathway for sustainable tourism.
