The Grand Jury Prize, recognising an outstanding creative effort to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, was awarded to the Municipality of Tilos (Greece) at this year's European Enterprise Promotion Awards. Their innovative Just Go Zero Tilos project was recognised for its creativity and impact, as the project introduced a cutting-edge waste management system on the island, supported by community consultation and awareness-raising efforts to promote a circular economy.
Also the champion in Category 5 'Supporting the Sustainable Transition', the initiative achieved an impressive 100% waste diversion from landfills and a 93% recycling rate. The project has set a benchmark for sustainable waste management. Its use of low-carbon technology and active engagement with both residents and the local business community made it a standout model for other communities to replicate.
We spoke to Jenny Giannopoulou, Communications & Press Manager for the Municipality of Tilos, about the island's incredible success.
What was it like to win an EEPA prize? Can you describe the feeling and what it means for you and your project?
Winning an EEPA prize was both an honour and a powerful affirmation of our efforts. It felt incredibly rewarding to see our hard work, collaborative spirit, and dedication to sustainability recognized at a European level. For our project, “Just Go Zero Tilos,” the award signals that small-scale, community-driven initiatives can have a significant impact and serve as a model for others. It underscores that when innovative thinking meets collective action, transformative change is truly possible.
Why should others consider participating in EEPA 2025? What advice would you give to other enterprise and entrepreneurship promoters?
Participating in the EEPA offers a unique chance to share your vision, expand your network, and gain widespread recognition. It is not only about the potential of winning an award, but also about connecting with like-minded professionals, learning from other exceptional projects, and discovering new opportunities for growth. My advice to other promoters would be:
- Embrace your uniqueness: Highlight what sets you apart and clearly communicate your project’s value.
- Focus on sustainability and social impact: Show how your efforts go beyond profit and truly benefit society and the environment.
- Foster collaboration and community: Demonstrate that your initiative thrives on partnerships, knowledge exchange, and collective efforts.
By doing this, you’ll stand out and inspire others while strengthening your impact.
Describe what EEPA means to you in three words.
In three words: Recognition, Opportunity, Inspiration.
