Environmental challenges transcend national boundaries, necessitating coordinated efforts for sustainable water governance. The absence of a formal agreement between French and Flemish authorities is impeding cross-border cooperation in managing the Schelde, Leie (Lys), and IJzer (Iser) rivers. This lack of alignment can lead to policy mismatches, delayed flood responses, and inefficiencies in long-term resource planning.
To address these critical issues, a French-Belgian expert team is currently analysing the case "Cross-border freshwater sharing between France and Flanders", submitted by Provincie West-Vlaanderen. Their objective is to identify solutions that could enhance resource allocation and improve emergency responses for both regions.
Strengthening cross-border cooperation today is essential to building resilience for the future. Learn more about the cases selected under b-solutions 3.0: https://www.b-solutionsproject.com/projects
