In the framework of the DG REGIO project “Study on Cross-Border Data Collection”, we have adopted a phased approach involving multiple batches of outreach to collect data.
In the first batch, we have contacted countries that already publish cross-border data on their platforms or are expected to provide it with minimal effort.
In the second and third batches, we reached out to the remaining National Statistical Institutes (NSIs).
Countries were allocated to batches based on an initial assessment of data availability, followed by an in-depth review to optimise the final allocation. This phased approach has allowed us to progressively identify and address challenges encountered during data collection, refine our methodology, and improve supporting materials and communication with the NSIs. It also ensures that countries with less experience in cross-border statistics receive tailored guidance and support.
The graph below summarises the current status of our data collection efforts as of May 2025, based on the 26 countries that have been contacted.
We are happy to share that of the datasets received, 27% are complete and mature, while we are currently processing 23% to assess their completeness an quality.
📩 Need support?
Throughout the process, we are committed to working closely with NSIs to overcome any barriers. If you encounter challenges in meeting our data collection requests or in sourcing the right information from various systems, please do not hesitate to reach out at crossborderdata@cbs.nl. We are happy to support you through this process.
