Action Group A3 - Lifespan Health Promotion & Prevention of Age Related Frailty and Disease

EIP on AHA’s Action groups were (2012-2020) a community of partners committed to work on specific issues related to active and healthy ageing. They did this by sharing their knowledge and expertise with their peers, increasing the added-value of their national and local experience, and identifying gaps that need to be fulfilled at European level. Currently, Futurium is the platform of choice for partners to continue to share their work.

The A3 Action Group brought together around 220 commitments representing organisations, including public health authorities, care organisations, academia, research centres, industry, patients associations and professional bodies. These organisations have committed themselves to understanding the underlying factors of frailty, exploring the association between frailty and adverse health outcomes in older people, and better preventing and managing the syndrome and its consequences.

Given the high prevalence and cost of frailty among older people, preventive actions offer an opportunity for significant improvement in the functional status and quality of life of older people, even with low-cost interventions. A consensus on a clinically validated frailty model, as well as operational definitions, advances the development of targeted interventions (including clinical trials), products and services aligned with clinical goals. This can be facilitated by using innovative tools to support new types of services.
